A new app from actor and typewriter aficionado Tom Hanks turns your iPad into an old-fashioned typewriter, according to Yahoo News.

Called "Hanx Writer," the app shows text in crisp typeface, makes the click-click-click sound of typing and even "dings" when you hit the return key at the end of each line.

Unlike typewriters, however, there is a delete key, and you can email and share your "typewritten" documents.

Hanks, who has a collection of 200 typewriters, told USA Today, "What's pleasing to my sensibilities is when you have the report of the key being struck, it allows for clear thinking. I suppose some people who get the app may just be looking for a different sound, but really it's for people searching for a more personalized experience when writing on an iPad."

The app is free from the iTunes store, but additional font styles and colors and sounds can be bought for $2.99 each.
