A dear friend of mine--former state representative Anne Mueller--fought a 20-plus year battle to get more money from the State of Georgia for mental health.  People's eyes just glaze over when the subject comes up.  Mental health kept getting less money and those who should be in an institution of some sort or monitored could not be.  Most of these people are not necessarily dangerous but they need care.  Anne doesn't just talk the talk on mental health, she walks the walk.  When one of her neighbor who had a mentally impared adult son died a few years ago, Anne adopted him--or became his legal guardian.

Anne is in her 70's and taking care of this man is no easy task and she's no shrinking violet when she stands up for mental health care.  She's constatly on the phone and speaking out for better care and facilities.  This is money that would be well spent.  There are lots of people who should not be "on the street."  This is not cruel...it protects them from themselves and, in some cases, protects them from us.  The State of Connecticut cut their mental health budget, yet again, only a few days before the Sandy Hook shootings.  Do not infer that I'm like the left-wing cretins who think that more gun laws will stop the killing or get rid of the guns.  I'm not saying that Conecticut's mental health spending (or the lack thereof) would have prevented Sandy Hook at that particular session.  But perhaps a few sessions back it might have.  If Adam Lanza could have been put into a secure facility as his mother had requested it could have saved those children and the hero teachers and school staff who died that horrible day.

Instead, when these mentally-challenged citizens "go off the rails" one way or the other--law enforcement has to deal with them.  Law enforcement officials are not necessarily trained for this and it takes many of those officers off the street to transfer these people to a facility that may be seveal hundred miles away.  If they require jailing that takes of space for the real bad people.  That drains budgets for law enforcement since these people who should be in a hospital since they require food and drugs.

More shootings have occurred since the last time I wrote about this.  Once again, much to the chigrin of the news media, none of them have been the result of a Tea Party member. But it turns out someone knew there was a problem with the shooters. Yet no one, not even the NSA, was keeping an eye on them. The weekend shooting in Las Vegas finds that friends and neighbors heard the perps saying they were going to kill police.  The anti-gun crowd still out in full force too. The tenuous logic is that if a gun can prevent a crime then how did two cops get shot since they have guns!  When you're ambushed it's hard to shoot first.  But if someone else at that CiCi's Pizza had been armed, perhaps they could have stopped it before those two dirtbags killed an innocent woman across the street at Wal-Mart.

Looks like the sickoes in this case were members of some Nazi gang and mental health may not have been an issue.  Although anyone who thinks being in such a group like that makes sense or will accomplish anything but disaster does have a mental problem. Nevertheless, more gun laws won't stop these killings but getting dangerous people into a mental facility before they seriously hurt or kill somebody will.  That's tax money well spent.  Then we could put all the politicians who keep calling for more gun control and gun laws in there and save America from those morons.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      ;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
