White House Press Secretary is done speaking for the Prez!
President Barack Obama took to the podium this afternoon to announce that he's accepted the resignation of WH Press Secretary Jay Carney.
To quote Herman Cain today, "One man can only spin so much."
(2:26pm) Carney is still speaking about his resignation during a live press briefing and a reporter just told him, "Congratulations on getting your life back!"
During his surprise appearance at an earlier scheduled press briefing, President Obama said Josh Earnest, the White House special assistant to the president and principal deputy press secretary, will assume Carney’s role.
“His name describes his demeanor,” Obama said of the incoming press secretary. “Josh is an earnest guy and you can’t find just a nicer individual.”
Carney is 49 and was at one time the Moscow bureau chief for Time Magazine. He told reporters after the president’s remarks that his last three-and-a-half years as the White House press secretary has been an “amazing experience” and “so fulfilling.”
Obama’s announcement came less than three hours after announcing the resignation of Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki in the midst of a high-profile scandal that’s plagued the VA in recent weeks.
