GARDEN CITY POLICE CHIEF LYONS ANNOUNCES HIS RETIREMENT

After over fifteen years of serving and protecting the City of Garden City, Chief of Police David L. Lyons has announced his retirement from the Garden City Police Department effective December 1, 2017. 

One of the most recognizable faces and personalities in the community, Chief Lyons will bid farewell to his law enforcement career with the Garden City Police Department on December 1, 2017. Under Chief Lyons’ leadership, crime has fallen across the board in Garden City and the department has made great strides as an organization. Both tangibly and intangibly, Garden City has become a safer community because of its police department and the many dedicated police officers that make up the department. Chief Lyons has been an outstanding leader who has nurtured the professionalism of the department and guided it to ever-increasing credibility and recognition via national accreditation.

The Mayor, City Council, and staff of Garden City congratulate Chief Lyons on his retirement and wish him the best in his future endeavors.

The City is pleased to announce that Major Gilbert Ballard, a 23-year veteran of the Garden City Police Department, will be taking over as Chief of Police. As second in command in the Garden City Police Department for many years, Major Ballard has provided outstanding service to the Garden City community and the City is confident that he will successfully lead the Garden City Police Department going forward. The City is fortunate to have a qualified and well-respected police officer to promote from within to lead the Garden City Police Department.
