Red Flags on "Red Flag Legislation"

You have to hand it to the left, they are relentless, constant, and they never sleep. Ever tried stopping an ant without actually killing it? No matter what you do to block that little creature it'll go around, over, under, through whatever you try to do. Same with the left's policies. No matter how many times they advocate for something like, let's say, "gun control" and pass more laws that have no effect whatsoever, their answer is always to pass even more laws and tougher laws. Since those laws don't ever work we need to just go ahead and outlaw guns and negate the Second Amendment. Funny thing about laws--no matter how many you have, people still disobey them. It's against the law to run a red traffic light--but people do and many times with horrific results. It's against the law to drive drunk, but drunk drivers exist--so much so that they manage to take the lives of nearly 50,000 people annually on our roads. More red light laws aren't going to stop a car nor is another drunk driving That's like wiping out everyone in Bulloch County every year. That's far more than guns intentionally kill in a decade. When the left's government programs fail--and they always do--their excuse is: "We just haven't spent enough money on it."

In the last couple of weeks we've had the anti-gun crowd's dream come true in a manner of speaking. Three horrendous mass shootings starting at the Garlic Festival in California (remember that one?) then the WalMart in El Paso and a few hours later, the monster who killed nine more--including his sister--in Dayton. As outrageous as that statement sounds, those events have brought the lunatic fringe out of the woodwork in full force. All these radical groups like Mothers Demand Action, Code Stink--er Pink--and others are now screaming at the top of their lungs for Congress to "do something." Doing "something" can be disastrous because of our propensity for going overboard and/or doing "something" stupid. The Democretins have been trying to ban guns for years though they've cloaked their desires in different terms, but to borrow a favorite phrase of theirs--a "dog whistle." The Republicans, notorious for caving in like 9.0 at the San Andreas Fault, are already running for the tall grass saying they will "do something" like the so-called Red Flag legislation. The Proposals of this nature sound good on the surface but the unintended consequences are numerous and opens itself up for unlimited avenues of abuse...especially from the left. We have heard too many stories about mass shooters who have broadcast their intentions for weeks or months, told friends or associates they have evil desires to kill people. In the case of the Dayton shooter, he put a gun to one of his friend's head but that incident went unreported until it was too late. Likewise we've heard way too often those same people say didn't think he's actually do it. So with the "Red Flag law" in place it would seem logical that all one just needs to call the police when they hear someone make or perform such threats knowing that person has firearms and reporting them. What could possibly go wrong??? The potential for abuse is enormous! A wife could report a husband she's mad at...or vice versa. A disgruntled neighbor could do likewise. Military vets with PTSD who have had psychiatric care could have their guns confiscated on the tenuous logic that a military had committed some atrocity.

This is the proverbial slippery slope. It's the left's first real foot-in-the-door (or "dog whistle" if you will) to circumvent the Second Amendment and, at the same time the Fourth Amendment--a "two-fer" for the gun grabbers. In reality an amendment to our precious Constitution without going through the constitutional process. The regular process will never succeed, so this is the next best thing. Barack Obama was notorious for doing things that were unconstitutional via executive orders and he got away with it because neither the courts or Congress did nothing to stop him since--by today's twisted logic--that would be RACIST! Congressman Buddy Carter (R-Ga.) told me this week that he'd only vote for such legislation without all sorts of limiting wording. But the best thing to do is for people to say something when they see something. The most preventable mass shooting in recent memory was in Parkland, Florida where the police were called to the "perp's" residence dozens of times and his social media was rife with terroristic threats now that should be the red flag the authorities need to take action and get mental health help. It's a touchy subject and there's no simple way to solve it. But there are millions of honest, responsible, law-abiding gun owners (I among them) who get training and never give a thought to shooting anyone except in self-defense. So if guns were the problem it would be a daily bloodbath. We're darn tired of being vilified because we possess, love and enjoy firearms for hunting, target practice or self-defense. We're tired of living with our collective heads in a guillotine waiting on the Congressional blade to drop turning us law-abiding citizens into criminals with the swipe of a pen. We continue to fall down on the job getting more health care facilities and we ignore that legislation at our peril.
