LEGO is honoring four historic women of NASA in its new set arriving in stores on November 1st. The women are:
- astronaut Sally Ride, the first American woman in space;
- astronaut Mae Jemison, the first black woman in space;
- astronomer Nancy Roman, a key figure in the creation of the Hubble Space Telescope;
- and computer scientist Margaret Hamilton, the lead software designer for the Apollo 11 moon landing.
The sets let users build the projects that made the women famous. So Hamilton's model stacks giant books of flight software, Roman comes with a miniature Hubble Space Telescope, and Jemison and Ride stand beside the Space Shuttle.
Not included, however, is Katherine Johnson, the physicist and mathematician portrayed in the movie Hidden Figures. She was part of the set's original announced lineup, but had to be removed because LEGO said they weren't able to obtain approval from all the "key people."
