9:42pm update from Savannah Fire Dept. - SAVANNAH, GA (Friday, February 16, 2018)
–At 6:57 p.m. Friday, February 16, 2018 Savannah Fire was dispatched to an accident at Outback Steakhouse, located at 11196 Abercorn St. Engine 2 arrived within three minutes at 7 p.m. Savannah Police were also on scene. They discovered that a van crashed into the back of the restaurant, breaking a gas line and causing a portion of the kitchen ceiling to collapse. A total of seven people sought treatment for injuries local hospitals. Four employees were transported from the scene. Three were burned and later transported to the Augusta Burn Center, one sustained a broken arm and one- a pregnant woman- was injured by the damaged ceiling. The Savannah Police Department is investigating the accident.
This happened just before 7pm. Officials say two people have been severely burned, and a pregnant woman was injured from the ceiling collapsing. Four people are injured and the driver suffered minor injuries.
Savannah Alderman Tony Thomas posted: "Onsite at Outback on Abercorn. Vehicle smashed through the back wall of the kitchen severing a gas line and hitting deep fryers. Hearing of casualties(injuries). Do not know the status of those injured. They are being transported to area hospitals.****Update: 2 individuals with severe life-threarening burns, 2 other individuals with injuries being transported to area hospitals. Investigation is underway."
