Kamiyah Vicks has been found safe and was sent to an area hospital to receive treatment for dehydration and minor scrapes.
Authorities say Kamiyah was found by Savannah Police recruits in a wooded area near Shellbark Way and Basswood Drive, which butts up to the Lake Shore neighborhood.
After a six hour search involving multiple agencies, they found two-year-old Kamiyah Vicks in the middle of the woods in Pooler.
“He heard the baby scream, and that’s when I heard the baby scream as well. We paused for a second, and that’s when we ran towards the baby,” said Cadet Luis Esquina.
The cadets say they found Kamiyah dehydrated, leaning against a tree, with minor scrapes.
“Open arms, and ready to go. She was thirsty, she was hot, she was tired, so we got her the medical treatment she needed,” said Cadet Robert Parker.
Kamiyah first went missing around 5 p.m. Tuesday night.
Port Wentworth Police were initially called around 7:00 Wednesday morning and discovered that the toddler was missing.
Several law enforcement and local agencies fanned out across the area and began searching for the toddler.
She was found by Savannah Police recruits crying and leaning against a tree at approximately 12:27 p.m.
1:25pm update - WTOC is reporting that a 2-year-old girl who went missing in Port Wentworth has been found alive. Rescue crews found the missing girl in the woods near The Savannah Highlands area.
Before being found, Kamiyah Vicks was last seen near a wooded area that borders the Lakeshore neighborhood, where the child's mother lives in Port Wentworth.
Police say the toddler was found crying out in the woods in the area with minor scratches.
According to Major Lee Sherod from the Port Wentworth Police Department, the mother was pushing her child around 5 p.m. Tuesday. She was later seen around 7 a.m. Wednesday without the toddler. Sherrod says she called police about the missing kid.
Investigators have interviewed the mother and are still investigating what happened.
12:15pm update - WTOC's Zach Logan is reporting that 2-year-old Kamiyah Vicks was last seen with her mother at Benton Blvd. and Highlands near Pooler. Her mother has been taken to the hospital where investigators are trying to get more details about the situation.
9am 6/27/2018 - Port Wentworth Police are actively searching for a missing 2-year-old girl named KAMIYAH VICKS. At least one voluntary search crew has reportedly been called to help.
Officials say the toddler was last seen in the Lakeshore area off Mienhard Road around 4 o'clock Wednesday morning. She was wearing a leopard print outfit and was in a stroller.
WTOC's Zach Logan says authorities on-scene include: Pt. Wentworth PD-Fire & Rescue-EMS and the Chatham Emergency Management Agency. A lake in the area is being searched by boat and there's also a search helicopter helping in the effort to find 2-year-old Kamiyah.
