The Sears department store in Oglethorpe Mall will soon close its doors, starting with the Sears Auto Center closing in late August.
Sears Holdings says they need to "streamline operations, strengthen our capital position and focus on our best stores," so they've decided to close 46 Sears and Kmart stores across the U.S.
Those stores include the Savannah location in Oglethorpe Mall, will close this coming November, as well as Sears in Brunswick.
Liquidation sales are expected to start as early as Aug. 30.
Sears Holdings said this about its employees:
We thank associates affected by these store closures for their many contributions to our company. Eligible associates will receive severance and will have the opportunity to apply for open positions at area Kmart or Sears stores.
