This is the 9:00 AM update on Hurricane Florence provided by the Liberty County Emergency Management Agency.

At 8:00 AM Hurricane Florence had maximum sustained winds of 110 MPH and is located approximately 170 miles ESE of Wilmington, NC.  The Current track of the storm takes it into the coast of North Carolina with a slight turn to the south/south west. On this track we could possibly expect some impacts from the storm in the way of tropical storm force winds beginning at sunset Friday and extending through the evening hours.  This would mean that winds could be in a range from 39 – 73 MPH locally.  During this period residents should limit outside activities including travel. Some loss of power may occur as a result of falling debris.

At this time estimated rainfall amounts may be in the 1 – 2” range. As we noted yesterday, Florence remains a very unpredictable storm. While no evacuations are anticipated, residents should remain vigilant and monitor the situation closely. No storm surge problems are anticipated along our immediate coast.
