NewsRadio Savannah introduces you to the Lancaster-Brown family and their Ronald McDonald House Of The Coastal Empire experience:
It was the Friday before Thanksgiving and my family was planning a trip to Florida when I thought I may have dilated slightly. I made an appointment with my doctor and went in for a checkup. As he was checking to see if I had dilated, my water broke, and I was rushed to Memorial Hospital.
I spent the whole week of Thanksgiving in the hospital before my darling daughter decided she was done waiting and wanted to stick her arm out. Because it was her arm and not her head, I was immediately scheduled for an emergency c-section and my beautiful baby was born at 11:39 PM on December 1st, two months early and weighing only 2 pounds and 14 ounces.
Because she was born so early, we had no option but to leave our precious baby in the capable hands of the nurses at the Dwaine and Cynthia Willet Children’s Hospital at Memorial Hospital. My first pregnancy went smoothly, so I was unprepared and very nervous to leave my newborn with strangers an hour’s drive away home. Luckily, we were given the opportunity to stay in the Ronald McDonald House.
Honestly, we thought it was going to be horrible to be away from home during Christmas time, but the Ronald McDonald House did an excellent job at making a bad situation better. The staff, volunteers, and donors made sure we didn’t want or need for anything. The House provided meals, laundry services, a comfortable bed and, the best part of all, peace of mind knowing I was right next door to my beautiful angel as she spent every day getting bigger and stronger.
We made lifelong friends and great memories we will never forget. Now I tell everyone that if you’re feeling charitable, the Ronald McDonald House is the right organization to donate to.
