Mayor Cornell Harvey says it's a vote away, but the city commission is planning on discussing the possible delay of Brunswick's 4th of July fireworks. Acting on several recommendations, including one from the Downtown Development Authority, and concerned about the spread of COVID-19, the city is planning to take up the issue of moving the fireworks display to Labor Day. Harvey says if that's not possible due to the novel coronavirus, then plans may be made to schedule the fireworks for New year's Eve.
The matter does still have to be voted on by the full city commission next Wednesday.
If the city votes for the delay, Brunswick will join Glynn County and Jekyll Island as local entities that have either canceled or delayed their Independence Day fireworks displays.
