Miracle (n) - a surprising and welcome event unexplained but considered to be the work of a divine agency.
Hi, my name is Judy and my partner is Caleb and our lives are filled with miracles, our biggest one being our daughter; Georgia Constance. After being told my whole life that I, someone who dreamed of only being a mother for my entire childhood, would never be able to conceive due to my PCOS it was a complete shock and miracle to find out in December 2022 that we were expecting our first child. This blessing couldn’t have come at a better time as I was still freshly grieving the sudden loss of my mother (October 2022). I immediately started taking classes at a local women’s center that provided me with amazing support and knowledge. Caleb and I had many plans; we couldn’t wait for our gender reveal, baby shower, maternity pictures, all of it. We found out in April that we were going to have a baby girl. We were above the moon excited.
Our pregnancy was easy really no complications, our baby shower came around on May 27th and I woke up feeling not so great, I was experiencing cramping and extremely exhausted, but I wrote it off as Braxton hicks, since I had finally reached my third trimester. All during the baby shower I felt off so once we got home, I opted to try to nap but I couldn’t get comfortable no matter what I tried. So, we went to get checked out and come to find out I was definitely having contractions. Which was terrifying because it was way too early to have this baby. They were able to stop the contractions twice on Saturday. Sunday morning, I woke up even worse and essentially the pain caused me to black out. Caleb rushed us to the hospital and our beautiful miracle baby was born in Waycross at 28 weeks on May 28th. We had a lot of stuff ready, but we definitely were not prepared for this journey to start so soon.
We were in the neonatal intensive care unit for 66 days and 63 of those days we were welcomed in at the Ronald McDonald house in Savannah with open arms. They helped us out with a place to safely stay at no cost to us, being as we were 3 hours from home, along with a hot meal every evening and all the things we would need for lunches and snacks throughout the days. Through the Ronald McDonald house we not only found a place to stay but we made lifelong friends along the way. Our baby girl overcame so many hurdles during our stay and our Ronald McDonald family cheered with us the entire way as they checked in not only weekly but daily on not just our baby girl but us as well. They were especially caring when I also unexpectedly lost my father during our stay there. They called to check on me when I was out of town to deal with his burial plans along with still checking on our baby as well. We are so thankful for the Ronald McDonald organization and the Savannah Ronald McDonald house and staff as they made our stay so comforting during one of the most stressful times in our life!
