Greenwood Family: Shop With A Cop 2024

NewsRadio Savannah and our sponsors The Dewitt Tilton Group and Express Employment introduces you to the Greenwood family and their Ronald McDonald House Of The Coastal Empire experience:

My name is Haley Greenwood and I am mother to three wonderful boys aged 11, 5 and 10 months old. On February 1,2024 I gave birth to my youngest boy Waylon at 25 weeks and 6 days weighing only 11.6oz. I was informed by the doctors that this was very small and the first week of life would determine a lot for him and I needed to be close. They suggested looking into staying at the Ronald McDonald House. I immediately reached out and within days with open arms and an open heart they provided a room for me, a place just mere steps away from the NICU and my sick baby. This was the beginning of all the blessings the house would pour over me and my family.
Waylon quickly started the roller coaster ride of highs and lows. For the first three months of his life he was on high respiratory support, due to multiple infections in the lungs. We finally figured out it was due to bacteria on my breast pump, I now needed to find a way to sterilize the parts at the house. I ran to the house devastated, they could see the disappointment, hurt, emotion all over my face, embraced me with a hug and said, "Do you need anything?". I asked for permission to bring a microwave, they not only approved it they provided me with one. I just felt this huge amount of relief and gratitude, having one less thing I needed to worry about handling so I could just focus on Waylon.
Because of having a high amount of respiratory support during his first 3 months Waylon developed a grade two brain bleed, kidney failure, liver issues and then Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia/Chronic lung disease. After dealing with these many hurdles, he was able to have the breathing tube removed but after a month and after G Tube surgery and vaccines at just under 5 months old he was sent into pulmonary hypertension crisis and could not oxygenate so the breathing tube was placed once again. My world was falling apart, in fear for my child, who to be stabilized had to be paralyzed and flown to Children's Hospital of Atlanta. The Ronald McDonald House once again stepped in and guided me through the process of transferring houses. Currently Waylon, my little fighter, is making strides each day and we have hopes of possibly being home with him in February.
This house was truly a home away from home, a home that not only provided the daily things needed such as food and space to do laundry, but also a safe and secure place to help me get through each day. The Ronald McDonald House is more than just a roof over my head, they became family. My family and I cannot express the amount of gratitude we have for such a special place and the staff and the volunteers.
