NewsRadio Savannah and our sponsors The Dewitt Tilton Group and Express Employment introduces you to the Peagler-Carmichael family and their Ronald McDonald House Of The Coastal Empire experience:
Hi there. My name is Judy and my partners name is Caleb and we were blessed with our daughter at 28 weeks. Georgia is absolutely nothing short of a miracle. From the time she was born to now she has thrived in every situation life has thrown at her. Georgia was born weighing 2 lbs. in Waycross, Ga and flown to Savannah.
I was still grieving the loss of my mother who passed away the previous year, and now found myself grieving the loss of the perfect pregnancy and labor and delivery that I had envisioned after being told my whole life that I would never be able to even have a child. I had no idea what we would do or where we would stay as we were 3 hours away from our home with her. We quickly applied for the RMH and within 24 hours we were called to come in. We went from thinking we would be sleeping in our car in the parking lot of the hospital to being welcomed with open arms within hours.
Our stay at the RMH has brought us lifetime friends and family. We had a group of parents who would eat together, walk across the street together, and constantly check in with each other. And I’m so thankful that we still have those relationships today. We went to the reunion together and went to each other's 1st birthdays. We celebrate every high and we are there for each other's lows as well.
The RMH staff created a warm, welcoming, and homey environment with a promise of warm meals and a community of support so that we were able to have a safe place and create those bonds. I’m forever thankful for the bonds we have created with our extended family in the Ronald McDonald house, after 63 days together. Them being there for me grieving the loss of my father while we were so far from home absolutely made us family. We will forever be thankful for the Ronald McDonald organization and staff for making such a scary and unfamiliar situation so comforting.
