NewsRadio Savannah and our sponsors The Dewitt Tilton Group and Primrose Schools introduces you to the Hancock family and their Ronald McDonald House Of The Coastal Empire experience:
When our daughter Ziva was born and had to stay in the NICU, life felt like it stopped. My wife Raffinee and I were terrified, trying to balance hospital visits with caring for our two older daughters, Aubri and Autumn. We didn’t know how we would manage being so far from home, but then we found the Ronald McDonald House—a place that gave us hope when we needed it most.
I’ll never forget the first night we arrived. Aubri and Autumn were nervous at first, but their faces lit up when they saw the playroom and the shelves of toys. It was the first time in days that we heard them laugh. They loved exploring the House, and one night Aubri even tried to “help” in the kitchen by making her own version of a peanut butter sandwich masterpiece. Autumn proudly showed everyone her coloring pages like they were works of art. Those little moments reminded us that joy could still exist, even in the hardest times.
The most unforgettable moment for me was the first time I held Ziva. After days of watching her through tubes and monitors, feeling her tiny body in my arms was overwhelming. I cried—tears of relief, fear, and love all at once. Raffinee squeezed my hand, and for the first time, we felt like we could breathe again. That memory will stay with me forever.
Leaving the Ronald McDonald House was bittersweet. We were thrilled to bring Ziva home, but we knew we were leaving behind a place that had become our sanctuary. The House gave us more than a roof—it gave us laughter, comfort, and a community that cared. We will always be grateful for the kindness that carried us through one of the hardest chapters of our lives.
