Guyton Police lieutenant arrested on felony charge, officials say

GUYTON, Ga. (WSAV) — The Effingham County Sheriff's Office (ECSO) said that a Guyon Police lieutenant was arrested and booked into jail on Wednesday.

Joseph Coppola, 32, has been charged with one count of felony false statements or writings in matters of government, the Effingham County Jail records said. The listed offense date is Sept. 3, 2024.

Coppola was appointed as the Interim Police Chief of Guyton in January of this year following former Chief James Breletic's resignation.
